Current Event Report
Every student will have the opportunity to be a news reporter in our 4th grade classroom. By Monday, two students will be chosen to be the news reporters for the week. They must prepare during the week and present a current event by Friday. During the course of the week, the news reporter will read the newspaper, look in news magazines, and/or the internet for a current event. An excellent source is http://www.timeforkids.com/news . By Wednesday, he/ she should decide what article they would like to report on. The article should be approved by Miss Fernandez. The report will be two paragraphs and consist of the following information:
a. Heading on the top right hand corner of the paper. Preferably typed and double spaced. Times New Roman font.
b. First paragraph: If possible, give background knowledge on the event. Then, summarize the article. Write who is involved, what happened, when it occurred, where it took place, why it happened or why you think it happened, and how it happened.
c. Second paragraph: Student will explain what he/she thinks of the current event. The student should tell why this caught their attention and why others should care about this situation. The student can mention how the event affects our country, people, economy, and or environment. Lastly, the student should mention how he/she can be involved in the current event to make a difference.
d. The article must be attached to the report.
e. A drawing of the event or picture must also be attached.
