I, ______________________, agree to proceed with the following steps in case that I am confronted with a conflict at Evergreen Charter School.
1.I will do the following to try to solve the problem on my own first unless I/someone else is not safe:
a.Calm down (walk away, count to ten, etc.)
b.Complete an “I-Statement” (slips can be found in Miss. Fernandez’ classroom).
c.Explanation of the upset.I will read my “I-Statement” to the person I had a conflict with and they will read off their statement to me (if needed).
d.Discussion and resolution-both parties will agree to a solution that meets each other’s needs and is fair.A sincere apology will also be given.
e.Some kind of acknowledgment (handshake, hug, pinky swear)
2.If in case I have attempted to solve my conflict by following all the steps above and the conflict reoccurs, I will find an adult mediator (first I will attempt to tell my teacher) to confide in and help resolve the problem immediately. My parents will also be notified by the adult.
3.If the conflict happens for the third time, I will tell my teacher and she will assign a letter of apology (letter will state what school rule was broken, who it affected, and what he/she should do different next time) to be written by the individual(s) who has/have not followed the rules. The letter will be signed by its writer, my teacher, and the parents of the writer.
4.Lastly, if all above steps have taken place and there is still a problem, the students involved will be sent to the principal’s office for further consequences.
In addition, to create a positive environment we will have a positive comment box in the classroom where I can write a note about something kind one of my peers did for/to me.My teacher and the and the class will share most of the comments when the time is appropriate in class.
